Agro-Industrial Waste of Malt Bagasse: Perspectives on the Development of Eco-Friendly Ceramic Material

The construction sector is increasingly seeking sustainable alternatives in its processes worldwide, with a particular focus on the production of eco-friendly materials. Additionally, improper disposal solid waste rapidly increasing, particularly agro-industry, including generated from beer processing such as malt bagasse. Therefore, objective this study was to incorporate bagasse residue into ceramic materials at varying proportions (0, 2.5, 5, 10, and 15%) partial substitute for clay, submitted different sintering temperatures (750, 850, 950, 1050 °C). raw materials, namely mass bagasse, were characterized based their chemical properties (XRF, loss fire, elemental analysis), physical (grain size, Atterberg limits), mineralogical (XRD) characteristics. ceramics, both without incorporation waste, evaluated using dilatometry, apparent density, porosity, water absorption, linear shrinkage, tensile strength. compositions that exhibited best subjected microstructural characterization optical microscopy X-ray diffraction (XRD). Significant differences observed material, terms shrinkage porosity. It concluded amount incorporated increased, mechanical pieces decreased. 15% resulted lowest performance, primarily due greater mass. However, it should be noted up 5% all studied can still considered acceptable, meets minimum recommended value 1.5 MPa masonry components. This contributes technological environmental aspects civil construction.
